What to Feed Your Dog With Diarrhea

When you see that your dog has diarrhea, take action immediately. Dogs stomachs are extremely sensitive and can react to any slight change with their diet, like a different kibble, fresh food or treat, and can result in your pup experiencing loose poop and upset stomachs.

What is the cause?

There could be a variety of reasons why your dog is experiencing diarrhea, ranging from stress, parasites, infection, allergy, or eating something they aren’t supposed to in your house.

Only once? If your dog has only one instance of diarrhea and is a healthy pup, there is nothing to worry about. If it does continue, here are some tips we have!

  1. Fast Your Dog: The best thing you can do for your pup is let their stomach relax and withhold them from eating food for the next 12-24 hours.
  2. Only Basic Foods: We would recommend only feeding your pup a lean protein and basic grain. These include chicken, turkey, pumpkin, rice, oats, and bone broth
  3. Avoid High Energy and Playing: You want your dog to recover, so making sure they stay calm and relaxed will help them recover faster!
  4. Transition Slowly: Once you’ve introduced bland and basic food after fasting, try mixing in with their regular food.

What to look out for if diarrhea is an emergency: Call your Vet!
